Dr. Kyriaki Noussia is a Senior Lecturer / Assistant Professor in Law (E&R) at the University of Exeter Law School. Prior to that (2010-2015) she has worked as an arbitrator/ counsel in arbitrations in the areas of insurance law, reinsurance law, maritime law, energy law (oil and gas), environmental law and international commercial law. Outside arbitrations, she has regularly advised legally on insurance and reinsurance law issues, as well as in the other areas of law both in a stand-alone and in a transactional context as well as on the contentious side.
In 2013 she has been a Fulbright (Greece) Visiting Research Scholar and a Stavros Niarchos Foundation Research Grant Holder at the Columbia Law School (NY, USA). Between 2007 & 2010 she has been a holder of the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (University of Hamburg & Max Planck Institute for Private Law, Hamburg, Germany). In 2004-2007 she was a C.S.E.T. Lecturer in Law (University of Birmingham, UK).
Dr. Kyriaki Noussia read law in Athens (Greece) (Ptychion /LLB in Law) and pursued postgraduate LLM studies (LLM) in Essex (UK) & Ph.D. studies in Southampton (UK). Dr. Kyriaki Noussia is admitted to the Athens Bar (Greece) as an Attorney at Law / Barrister (1997 – present) and, since 2010, is licensed to appear before the Greek Supreme Court (Areos Pagos) & the Greek Conseil d’État (Symvoulio Epekrateas).
Within the International Insurance Law Association (AIDA) she is (in terms of AIDA World) the Chair of the Working Party on General Principles of Insurance Law & the Secretary of the Working Party on Distribution of Insurance Products; in terms of AIDA Europe she is the Vice President of the AIDA Europe Scientific Committee. Within National AIDA chapters level, she is a member of the Hellenic Insurance Law Association (HILA) and a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA).
Dr. Kyriaki Noussia is also a member of a number of other professional bodies and scientific societies [(Barrister – Athens Bar Association, Athens, Greece; Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) (UK); member of the British Maritime Law Association (UK); member of the Society of Legal Scholars (UK); member of the European Law Institute (ELI ) (Austria)].
Dr. Noussia welcomes applications from students interested in carrying out research in insurance and reinsurance law, arbitration law, oil and gas law, environmental law, and private and public maritime law.
Her mother tongue is Greek and she is fluent in English and French. She also possesses an advanced knowledge of German, a good knowledge of Italian and a basic knowledge of Spanish.
